Xander and Philip Score a Major Victory — and Marlena Gets Upsetting News About John

On today’s Days of Our Lives, Marlena asks a photo of John to come home soon. Cat pops in to let her boss know her next appointment is canceled and asks if she’d like lunch. Marlena’s good, but asks how things went with Chad. Cat lays out their fundraiser idea and they’re meeting this afternoon again.
Marlena thinks that’s heartwarming, but is worried about Cat and Chad working together. It’s all good, she’s assured, Cat told Chad she’s over him. “Oh good. So were you lying to him or yourself?”
Fine, Cat admits, but it’s better if Chad doesn’t know because it’ll get in the way of the fundraiser. Marlena gets a call from Shane she has to take, but before Cat can leave, she pauses as Marlena gets upset, demanding to know what’s happening. Doc hangs up and tells Cat John’s missing.
Cat empathizes, saying how agonizing it was when she didn’t know if her mom was alive or not. But she found Catharina, and Marlena and John could have a miracle, too. Marlena says they’ve faced greater odds, but eventually, luck runs out. She starts tearing up.
Leo Runs a DiMera Exposé
Leo gets to The Spectator to thank Chad for hiring him back as a reporter. And he’s got an idea for his next story. “Children of the Phoenix: Hall of House DiMera.” Chad tells Leo it’s a hit piece on his family and it’s not going in the paper. Leo insists it is because Kristen and EJ are facing federal charges for Ava’s kidnapping. He insists it’ll lead to TV, podcasts — Chad tells Leo he’ll put it on the front page.
Fact check, source, run everything by legal. And leave his niece, Rachel out of it. She’s a minor. Leo thanks him and is told not to make Chad regret it. He wants to go over more stories, but Chad shoos him off so he can meet with Cat. Leo’s not sure Cat’s trustworthy, but Chad defends her and the two start going at it, with Leo pointing out his boss seems like he wishes Cat still had feelings for him. He walks off with a last weird look at Chad.
Stephanie and Sarah Shake On It
Stephanie runs into Sarah at the hospital, where they lament the possibility of the hospital shutting down. Sarah, though, admits that if the hospital goes under, she’s one of the lucky ones… Xander assured her he’d take care of her if she lost her job. “I didn’t go to eight years of medical school to be a kept woman.”
Steph asks how things are going with, you know… that big secret. She’s still mad Philip made her and Belle complicit in his fraud, but telling now would destroy too many lives. Sarah insists this is for the greater good. Both brothers need each other for balance and that’s what they’re getting now. They shake on keeping quiet, “for the greater good.”
Joy’s Not Feeling Well
Alex pops into the pub, only to awkwardly run into Joy having lunch. They hadn’t seen each other since he dumped her in the hospital. Alex grabs his food and apologizes for handling the situation horribly. She thanks him and he points out she’s barely touched her food, so Joy admits she hasn’t had much of an appetite since Body and Soul recast their roles.
She tells him he should get to Stephanie and they part, leaving her to stare at her plate, take a bite of fries, and run off, sick. She heads to the hospital, nauseous and tells Sarah about her symptoms. It doesn’t take long for Joy to jump to the “I’m pregnant” conclusion. (Which we all probably did, too.)
She’s been trying not to think about it, but now… It’s been a month since she was with Alex. Sarah assures her they’ll find out one way or another. They run a test as Joy worries about being pregnant, but Sarah assures her that she is in charge of her body.
Philip and Xander Sweet Talk Mr. Shin
Philip greets Xander with exciting acquisition news, only to be stopped dead by his brother insisting they need to get answers on why Victor named Philip as heir. He’s not coming for Philip, though, just wants to be prepared for regulatory hurdles if they take over DiMera. Which could be closer than ever: Wei Shin is stopping by.
And that’s when Mr. Shin walks in. They sit down for some tea, specially prepared for him, as the brothers butter him up. Wei cuts to the chase, wanting to know what they want, so Xander lays out their thoughts on Titan buying DiMera. Mr. Shin gets up, saying they’re wasting their time, so Philip suggests a hostile takeover.
“Have a good day gentlemen.” Philip stops Wei before he can leave, and offers a “position of power in the new regime.” The brothers make the point that Stefano’s kids aren’t as good for the bottom line as he was. Mr. Shin points out that Titan’s no less chaotic — just look at them! Fair enough, but Xander says he and Philip put aside their differences for the good of the company and its shareholders, unlike the DiMera siblings.
Mr. Shin’s not comfortable going behind Stefano’s daughter’s back, but they point out his loyalty has been taken advantage of, and if he joins, he’ll oversee the DiMera holdings. “I’m in,” he shakes, then heads out, letting Xander and Philip know he’s impressed. Alone, they high five and gush about how great a team they are.
Alex and Joy Head to Titan
Alex brings lunch home to Stephanie with a kiss, then tells her about Joy. She’s ready to put it all behind her, and so should they. Also, B&S recast him, but he doesn’t regret not going after the show. It was just “some weird detour” for him. (Amen.) But he’s kind of directionless right now. And jobless. Stephanie suggests going back to Titan.
He’s unsure, but before he can say more, Steph gets a text from Kayla asking for help with the hospital PR work. Stephanie heads out.
In the show’s final moments, Cat arrives at The Spectator and tells him she got caught up when Marlena learned John was missing. Chad may need to be there for her. Back in her office, Marlena flashes back to a scene from years ago, greeting “Roman” at the docks back before anyone realized he was John.
Xander’s on the phone working out things with Mr. Shin’s return to Hong Kong when Alex drops in asking for a job at Titan again. Philip, meanwhile, sees Joy sitting in the square and offers her a cookie from Sweet Bits. She looks like she could use one. He offers her someone to talk to, he’s known her since she was a kid. Joy, in turn, asks if he’s hiring at Titan.
At the hospital, Sarah’s also on the phone asking them to hurry up a pregnancy test for Joy just as Stephanie walks in, looking horrified. “Joy?”
