Susan and Belle watch EJ in his hospital room, where they discuss Belle’s true feelings for EJ. “Yeah, yeah, I do love EJ.” Belle takes his hand and he starts to stir. He opens his eyes to an excited Susan and nods that he can hear her. But when Susan says Belle is there, too, he just stares.

Belle runs off to get the doctor as Susan assures EJ he’s safe and Susan joins her outside shortly to say they should both go back in to boost his energy. Susan leaves Belle behind, where she admits to herself that she’s thankful he’s OK, “I’m just not sure I’m ready to face him yet.”

Susan heads back where EJ’s struggling to drink. After a coughing fit, he manages to ask what happened. She tells him he was shot in the chest, which means he saw who did it. “Who was it that shot you?”

His head’s fuzzy, but he manages to whisper out for Susan to tell him more, hoping it’ll trigger something. She tells him what she knows, but it doesn’t help much. EJ says he remembers seeing someone. Just then Belle walks in and he says it was her. “Belle. I remember what you did.”

Susan starts freaking out at Belle, but EJ clarifies that he remembers her wire betrayal. Susan chastises Belle, “You wanted to send my boy to prison?? You just said you loved him!” EJ stares, then asks Susan to leave. “Is it true? Do you love me?”

Susan Spooks Gabi and Cat

Gabi’s eating in the square when she sees a call from JJ, which she ignores. Cat walks over and joins her and the two catch up since they haven’t seen each other since Vancouver. Gabi jumps right into asking what the “deal” is with Cat and Chad. She could see the sparks between them, which Cat downplays.

They’re friends and that’s it. “Just friends, huh?” No sparks while working together? Cat thinks back to the sparks between them, then lies about it. She asks if Gabi and JJ are coming to the fundraiser and gets the story about why they’re no longer together, what with the murder accusation and all.

Just as Gabi’s saying that she didn’t shoot EJ, but he deserved what he got, Susan walks over to chastise her. Gabi introduces Susan and Cat, both of whom are happy to meet the other, then Susan warns Cat to stay the hell away from Gabi. “You are mean, mean, mean!” Susan points at Gabi until she snaps, grabs Susan’s finger and tells her to get it the hell out of her face.

That’s when Susan yelps, rushes behind Cat and accuses Gabi of being at the house the night EJ was shot. She feels it in her bones! Gabi thinks back to looking in from outside that night, watching EJ pour himself a drink. Then she denies it while Cat just looks incredibly uncomfortable between them.

Gabi’s taken aback when Susan says EJ’s awake, then runs off — after telling Cat that her mom enjoyed the chocolates she sent, but skip the ones with cherries next time. Gabi tries brushing off Susan as a kook, but Cat marvels that she did send chocolates to her mom.

Johnny Thanks Chad

Johnny visits Chad at the Horton house to tell him he went to see EJ — and he’s glad he did. It was all thanks to Chad. He talked to his mom, and while he’ll never understand her choices, he understands her better. He’s proud of her and wants to love and support her. EJ, though…

Sami came to terms with what happened with EJ, but Johnny’s not sure. Before he can say much, though, Belle calls Chad with news that EJ’s awake. Chad fills his nephew in as soon as he’s off the phone.

Chad offers to give Johnny a lift to the hospital, but we get the usual gun flashback and Johnny declines. Alone, Chad rushes over to the hospital to interrupt Belle and EJ before she can answer his question about loving him.

EJ notes he has Chad to thank for saving him, and Chad tries apologizing for printing the article that may have caused someone to shoot him. EJ says he’s trying to piece that night together. Belle was there but left. Then… He recalls Chanel, though. But she said her peace and left. Kristen got home after — but Chad says that was a dead end. He promises they’re going to catch the shooter.

Amy Gives Chanel Great News

Chanel asks her mom if she’s going to the hospital fundraiser, but neither of them are really up to it. Johnny’s still struggling with EJ and Paulina’s busy with being mayor.

Amy drops by Amy and Paulina’s to say she’d like to revisit the adoption. She brings up EJ’s coma and both women assure her that even if he makes a full recovery, he will have nothing to do with their life or the baby’s. In that case, Amy says, she has no objections.

Paulina assures Amy she’s making an amazing decision, and Chanel does, too. She’s about to call Johnny to give him the good news, only for her to get a text from her husband that EJ’s out of a coma. She quickly reassures Amy that it changes nothing — they’re not going back to that house.

Amy believes her, but wonders where they’ll live, and Chanel assures her that neither money nor a home will be an issue. But Chanel, confesses, they’re not as religious as they pretended, but they are God fearing and will raise the baby in the church. Amy appreciates the candor and agrees to the adoption.

Sophia and Tate Bond

Sophia visits Tate to tell him that her mom’s been thinking about the adoption quite a bit. She’s not sure which way her mom’s leaning, but fingers crossed. If that’s settled, at least then Sophia would just have normal pregnancy and labor stuff to worry about. Tate offers to be there to help while she’s giving labor.

They look into Lamaze classes, then start practicing, only for Sophia to get a text from her mom agreeing to the adoption.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Belle joins Chanel, Paulina, Amy, Sophia and Tate with the adoption papers drawn up, and everyone signs. Later, Johnny gets home where Chanel gives him the exciting news that he’s going to be a daddy once he signs the papers. But when they hug, his face looks anything but thrilled.

Chad spots Cat getting coffee in the hospital and says hi, thanking her for her support. She says she heard about EJ and asks how he is. Good, but EJ can’t remember who shot him.

Susan brings EJ some coffee, and he tells her his brain fog is clearing, but he’s sore. Susan tells him she’s pretty sure she knows who shot him. In the square, we get Gabi’s flashback again, then her shaking her head that there’s no way Susan knew what she did that night.

On the next Days of Our Lives, Th hospital fundraiser begins and Xander has some words for Philip.
