On today’s Days of Our Lives, Leo opens the door to Doug, who whips out the stolen necklace asking for help selling it. Leo asks if it’s real, examines it and is suitably impressed. “Can you sell it for me or not?” Doug demands as Loe starts going off on a tangent. Leo counters by asking who the hell he is, then stops and thinks. “Did Steven Olson send you?” Leo recalls him being accused of stealing the necklace and Doug says he’s the one who swiped it.

But he didn’t want to take it, especially from his grandfather’s wife. Leo’s shocked when he realizes who Doug is, but didn’t even know “Dougie III” existed. Also, if he didn’t want to steal the necklace, why did he? Doug’s desperate for money he owes to someone who’s here to collect.

Days' Doug holds out Alice's necklace to Leo in his hotel room doorway

He didn’t come to steal, he just wanted to pay respects to his grandfather. But he saw the opportunity, figured the necklace was the universe trying to help him and he took it. He’s not proud of it, the family’s been so nice to him, but he needs it more than they do. He just wants to get rid of it, pay off his debts and start life anew. Doug just needs Leo’s help.

Leo tries telling Doug he doesn’t do that anymore, but after some pleading, Leo says he might know some people. Just leave the necklace with him. Doug realizes he doesn’t have much choice and agrees.

Jennifer pops into the living room as Julie’s reading and they catch up a bit. Jen thanks Julie for letting them use the time capsule to commemorate Abigail. No one else is home, Julie says, and Jennifer notes how Doug arrived at the perfect time. “How long is he planning on staying?” She casually asks, then segues into whether he has a job or family. She’s worried about him taking advantage of Julie. “Hope doesn’t trust him and I told him I would look out for you.”

He showed up out of nowhere when Julie was feeling vulnerable, Jennifer points out. OK, but Julie tells her Hope called Doug’s dad and he is who he said he is. Julie wants to know if it’s because Doug was in jail and Jennifer’s shocked to learn that, but Julie doesn’t know any of the details about why.

“Considering his criminal past, maybe Doug is the one who stole Gram’s necklace,” Jennifer suggests. She goes through all the coincidences and timing and points out how suspicious the whole thing is. Julie says it’s not possible for Doug to take the necklace. She met Doug after the necklace was already gone at St. Luke’s. Doug’s innocent, so drop it.

Days' Ava smiles as Brady puts a necklace on her from behind

Brady knocks on Ava’s door just as she’s trying to put her necklace on. He tells her she looks stunning. Both of them admit they’d never been to the ballet and weren’t sure if they were overdressed or not. Brady helps her with her necklace, then explains the tickets are probably very close, thanks to Rachel. He reaches into his pocket and can’t find them. Ava half-joking suggests Kristen took them — but it’s also not off-brand.

Brady shrugs and goes to order more tickets, but they’re sold out. Everyone is. Ava’s fine with it, but Brady wants to enjoy the evening with her regardless. Well, it’s karaoke night downstairs in the pub, maybe they could do that. Or… how about bringing the Nutcracker to them?

They grab some takeout, stream the Nutcracker and get to know each other a bit better, from Ava’s preference for burgers and fries to her wanting to dance when she was a little girl. Then they both realize they have no idea what’s going on — and neither of them are really into it. They switch over to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for a bit before landing on A Christmas Story.

Days' Ava and Brady sit on the bed, eating takeout as she points the TV remote and they watch television

They’re having a great time before the wifi goes out. “Kristen cut out the internet, too!” Ava cracks. Out of options, Brady says they should have a do-over. Still, they both enjoyed their time together. He grabs his coat and leaves, giving her a kiss on the cheek as he goes.

Tate gets off the phone with Holly, unnerved by Leo’s warnings the day before. Sophia knocks on the door and rushes in after telling him they need to talk. She turns and tells a stunned Tate, “I’m pregnant.” Tate stammers a bit, asking if she’s sure, and yes, Sophia is. She took three tests. She’s sure. But they used a condom, he says.

Yeah, and they aren’t 100 percent effective. “However it happened, sperm met egg and we’re having a baby.” Tate gives her some water and cautiously broaches the idea of her terminating the baby. “This is completely your choice, I will drive you, whatever you need.” She shakes her head: No.

Days' Tate gestures to Sophia and himself as they talk on the couch in his living room and she just stares at him

She doesn’t have a choice. Where they live, parental consent is required if you’re under 18. Her parents would freak out if she went to them with this. They’d disown her if they found out. They don’t believe in birth control, they believe abortion is a sin and they’d never give her permission in a million years. “But it’s your body!” “Yeah, it is, but according to the state, what I think is best doesn’t matter.”

Tate suggests going to another state, but it’s too expensive and hard to get to Sophia says. Tate tells her he can help with all of that. She didn’t get pregnant on her own and won’t do it on her own. They can do it together. Sophia starts to spiral, but Tate assures her that her parents won’t find out. They can do this. They’ll figure out a time and no one will have to know.

Sophia asks about Holly and Tate gets quiet. “I really don’t want her to find out.” She promises not to say anything, but, “Let me just say this is amazing how this is all about her all of a sudden.” They both admit they’re freaked out. How will they get away with this without anyone finding out?

Tate says he’s sorry this is happening, then, before Sophia leaves, promises to do some research. “I’m going to take care of you, Sophia. I promise.” Sophia heads out, forcing an uncomfortable smile on her face as she does.

Days' Maggie and Holly chat at a table in the square

Holly sips coffee with grandma Maggie in the square and offers to help her with her Christmas shopping. And she could use some time away from Tate after Leo got into her head a bit. Holly tells Maggie about Leo’s warning to expect the unexpected. Maggie tells her not to worry about what might go wrong and focus on what she has.

Maggie then floats the idea of making an idea of going to an OBGYN and getting on birth control, but a suitably grossed out Holly says it’s fine. Nothing like that is happening. She just wishes it hadn’t happened with Tate and Sophia. Holly fills her in on all of Sophia’s shenanigans with Tate. “Oh, my!” Maggie mildly responds before reminding Holly that Tate made his choice to be with her, not Sophia.

Maggie’s sure Sophia has her regrets about sleeping with Tate and tells Holly can be intimate without having sex. There’s no rush or pressure. Sex has a lot of consequences.

In the show’s final moments, Leo admires the necklace in the mirror, convincing himself to do the right thing by Doug. Brady gets home and knows right away something’s wrong, but Tate just says he was zoning out. Tate then switches topics by asking why Brady’s dressed up. He tried to have a date. Back in her room, Ava takes off her necklace, smiling, and gets a text from an unknown number. “So how was your date?”

Days' Jennifer watches Julie like a hawk from the couch while Doug talks to her

Doug gets home with some Christmas cookies. It’s the least he can do for being so great to him. Jennifer glares inquiringly at him from the couch as he talks, then Julie tells him how grateful she is he’s there. They hug and Doug looks at Jennifer who keeps right on glaring.

In the square, Holly thanks Maggie for advice and her grandmother says she just wants the best for her. Sophia walks into the square and stops dead when she sees Holly. Holly introduces her and Maggie and Sophia casually asks how everything is with Tate. She hopes they have a wonderful Christmas, then heads off. Maggie thinks it was sweet to say, but, as Holly points out, “She didn’t mean a single word of it.”
