The Hospital Fundraiser Begins, Providing the Perfect Place for Xander to Threaten Philip’s Life

The big hospital fundraiser is finally here as Kayla and Cat take in the transformed Horton Square, turned into a carnival. Kayla tells Cat that she and Chad have done an amazing job.
Chad snags JJ at the Horton house to go along with him and the kids to the carnival fundraiser. JJ says he wasn’t planning on going — he ruined things with Gabi. They had a big fight, and he’s not sure they can work it out.
Chad says to give her some space and the carnival can take his mind off things! Thomas and Charlotte show up, ready to leave, and Chad prompts them to beg Uncle JJ to come. It works!
The four get to the square where Cat and Kayla greet them. The kids remember Cat from Thanksgiving and she takes them over for some face painting. Once they’re gone, Chad and Kayla talk about EJ a bit, then the doc asks JJ if they’ve got any leads in the shooting. He mentions tracking down Ava, which doesn’t surprise Kayla.
Cat does the face painting herself, as Chad fondly watches how good she is with the kids. She spots him and he walks over to join and tell them how awesome they look. Thomas tries to get his dad to get his face painted, too, as a rainbow tiger. Chad laughs nervously. “What’s a rainbow tiger?”
Cat shows him and it is exactly what it sounds like. Thomas thinks it looks sick, but Charlotte just giggles. Chad agrees it looks “sick,” but… who’s gonna want to bid on a rainbow tiger at the auction?
They explain the auction (a little) and Charlotte begs her daddy not to go. “What if they don’t bring you back?” Chad reassures her that no one is going to take him. He’ll always come back. And Aunt Julie will look after them while he’s out.
Gabi Tells Javi About JJ
Gabi heads into the kitchen for some orange juice to see Javi and Leo ogling the bachelors lined up for the hospital fundraiser. Javi’s really liking Alex, but Leo suggests maybe they shouldn’t bid on him since Alex threatened to kill him once over Sonny.
Gabi jumps in to burst their bubble with the news that Alex is neither single, nor gay. Javi tries her to play the game, earning an angry snap about JJ. She tells them about what he did and how furious she is, but Leo doesn’t think it’s all that ridiculous.
Javi suggests Gabi go to the carnival with them to get her mind off JJ. Leo suggests bidding on a bachelor to make JJ jealous. They head over to the auction, which is in the Brady Pub, but Gabi’s reluctant to join in. Javi convinces her to forget the man who treated her like a criminal and join the fun.
Sarah Starts Spiraling Over Philip
Xander’s tearing into breakfast in his robe when Sarah chastises him to get dressed so they can go to the fundraiser. That sets him off about everyone betraying him, so there’s no reason why he can’t wear his robe to the street fair.
Philip drops by just then, determined to tell Xander the whole truth. “I’m not the only one who betrayed you. So did your wife!” Sarah looks horrified as Xander turns towards her. Philip tells Xander about Sarah’s betrayal, that she knew about the forgery the whole time and — it’s just a nightmare.
Xander wakes Sarah up to go to the fundraiser. They show up a short time later, Sarah wishing they’d brought Victoria, Xander not. Sarah asks him to tone down the cranky and forget about Philip — which is tougher when Xander spots him across the square.
Stephanie and Alex Get Ready
Stephanie brings Alex some coffee in bed and the two get a bit flirty before he admits he’s still thinking about Xander’s blow up yesterday. They both agree this would be the worst time for him to learn about Sarah lying to him, too. But time to put this aside for now and get to the hospital fundraiser.
Alex isn’t feeling it, but Stephanie reminds him he’s a part of the bachelor auction. He feels weird about it, but she tells him it’s fine — technically he is a bachelor. And they both know they’re together.
They tease each other a bit about him going on a date with someone, then Stephanie sets some boundaries. “Your date with whoever wins this auction will be totally innocent and entirely unromantic.” Happily, Alex says. She’s the only one for him.
Xander Threatens Philip
They get to the fundraiser and join JJ and Kayla just as Xander starts tearing into Philip, telling him he should get the hell out of Salem. JJ heads over to ask if everything’s OK and Xander tells him to arrest Philip for fraud. But when JJ asks for more info, Xander backs down and makes up an excuse about Philip lying about some business thing.
JJ says it’s a civil matter, but Xander tells him to stick around because he’s considering killing his brother. Sarah smacks him and says it’s just brotherly bickering, so JJ warily leaves.
Philip thanks his brother, but says he just did it because the brothers need to be together to make the DiMera takeover work. But that doesn’t mean he can’t beat Philip. Sarah stops her husband and sends him off for hot dogs. She’ll handle Philip.
Gabi Tries Making JJ Jealous
Kayla starts the bachelor and bachelorette auction in the pub with Alex. Leo kicks things off, then gets into a very short bidding war with Stephanie and Javi. Stephanie’s about to win with a $1000 bid, but then Gabi sees JJ walk in and bids $10,000. And bumps it up to $15,000 while looking straight in JJ’s eyes. Winner!
Leo and Javi head over to JJ to knock him about accusing Gabi of attempted murder. JJ shrugs it off, mentioning the insane amount of money to make him jealous.
Kayla hands Gabi her receipt and thanks her profusely, after which Stephanie and Alex head over to thank her. Gabi gets a bit handsy and the two turn awkward before heading out with Stephanie making clear Alex is hers.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Stephanie shows up as Chad’s reassuring Charlotte and takes her off to look at the games, while Thomas goes off to show Uncle JJ his doggy face. Chad gets cleaned up and the two talk a bit about Charlotte’s fears ever since losing Abigail.
Kayla texts him to say how much the auction has already raised and he and Cat are thrilled that they pulled it all off.
Gabi thanks Kayla again for putting on the auction — as she’s talking to JJ, so she can twist the knife in him. Before she can leave, JJ stops her and says he wishes he had that kind of money to donate. “Enjoy your date.”
Alone, Sarah apologizes to Philip and thanks him for not telling Xander. She thinks him finding out now would be the end of their marriage. Philip promises he won’t say anything and walks off, with Xander staring at them in the background.
On the next Days of Our Lives, Kristen notices EJ’s unusual demeanor and Maggie urges Xander to be compassionate.
